Virginia Sea Grant accepts Coastal and Marine Law & Policy interns during the school year as well as the summer. Students who are interested in becoming a Virginia Sea Grant Coastal and Marine Law and Policy Intern should refer to our Internships page for more details.

Here’s a look at some of our past interns.

The Landscape of Marine Spatial Planning

Mark Knee will be identifying and cataloguing the many local and national authorities that govern different activities in, on, and along the waters of the Eastern Shore. Mark’s work supplements work done by the Virginia Coastal Zone Management Program, that is piloting a marine spatial plan on the Eastern Shore. Mark is a law student at William & Mary and will interned with Virginia Sea Grant the Spring 2010 Semester.

Researching Chesapeake Bay Executive Order

Ryan Johnson took part in the pilot version of Virginia Sea Grant’s Coastal and Marine Law & Policy Internship. Ryan researched the background of the Chesapeake Bay Executive Order and Federalism issues surrounding regulation of this estuary. His research laid the foundation for future analysis of the Executive Order.

Following his internship, Ryan returned to William & Mary (Williamsburg, VA) to complete his second year of law school. Ryan interned with Virginia Sea Grant during the Summer of 2009.
