By Sydney Mahan, Virginia Sea Grant Correspondent

Last semester Jennifer Armstrong learned design and photography tools as a Design Intern with Virginia Sea Grant. This spring, the Thomas Nelson Community College student returns to take it to the next level by working on branding projects as a Visual Identity Intern.

“I thought this would be a good opportunity to broaden my design skills and learn more,” she says about the upcoming semester with Virginia Sea Grant.

As the Design Intern in the fall, Armstrong took photos at Virginia Sea Grant events and worked to design posters, brochures, and reports. Some of her work is already in use on the Virginia Sea Grant website.

Armstrong is excited to be returning as a Visual Identity Intern for Virginia Sea Grant and start applying her creative skills to help refine the Virginia Sea Grant visual brand. She sees it as useful experience since she wants to go into marketing and branding when she graduates.

“I wanted experience using design for business and not just class projects,” she says.

Jennifer is currently enrolled at Thomas Nelson Community College. She is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts double major in Photography/Visual Design and Business Administration. Armstrong has been an Operational Assistant at the US Coast Guard Cyber Café and owns her own Photography business, Jenn’s Photography.
