Engaging Residents
in Resilience

Winter 2017 Hampton Roads Adaptation Forum

“Engaging residents in resilience sounds like it should be easy. But actually doing it can be really difficult. How do we talk to residents when we’re met with resistance?” asked Michelle Covi in her opening remarks at the winter 2017 Hampton Roads Adaptation Forum.

Held February 24 at the Virginia Modeling, Analysis and Simulation Center, the Forum’s theme was “Engaging Residents in Resilience.” Covi, a climate adaptation and resilience assistant professor of practice Old Dominion University’s ocean, earth & atmospheric sciences department, and a Virginia Sea Grant extension agent, helped organize the event to facilitate discussion about how to engage residents in sea level rise and recurrent flooding resilience.
