Tautog is a fish that supports both recreational and commercial fisheries from Massachusetts to North Carolina. Jan McDowell of Virginia Institute of Marine Science will develop single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) markers to monitor tautog populations. This data can be used to support effective regulation, fishery allocation, and resource sustainability. Another goal of the project will be to determine if the panel of SNP markers developed for tautog in Virginia can be used in other states.
Project details: Jan McDowell (VIMS). Development of a panel of single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) markers to assess the population structure of Tautog, Tautoga onitis, off the coast of Virginia.
