As Virginia Sea Grant’s summer marine policy intern, Blina Kruja will have a chance to investigate the relationships between different groups involved in ecosystem management in the Chesapeake Bay. Her work continues VASG director Troy Hartley’s analysis of management networks in the Bay. Kruja has always been passionate about environmental policy, and is excited by the first-hand experience she will gain with VASG.
“This project fits perfectly with my idea of a sustainable community,” Kruja says. “Not only does it create a more sustainable marine ecosystem, but it strengthens the economic and social dynamics of the community by educating, and therefore empowering, the people.”
Originally from Tirana, Albania, Kruja has lived in Williamsburg for the past five years. She will graduate from the College of William and Mary in 2014, with bachelors’ degrees in psychology and environmental policy. She hopes to work with international institutions to develop practical and effective conservation policies around the world.
