Southeastern Virginia has been ranked by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development as tenth in the world for assets at risk from sea level rise in port cities. Wetlands Watch has already begun efforts to increase awareness of the problem and ready tidewater localities for action; William (Skip) Stiles will now lead an effort to envision the next steps of the adaptation process. The idea behind the project is to create a competitive process for the selection of the project’s location, driving local governments and communities to become more invested in creating plans that lead to action. Once a plan has been selected and deemed successful for the chosen area, it can be used as a prototype to be utilized in other tidewater localities.
