For Jacklyn Cravey, Virginia Sea Grant’s (VASG) spring 2015 photography intern, her time at Sea Grant made for a semester of firsts. She got to delve into photojournalism, event photography, and even taking photographs with a drone.

“That was really fun,” she says. “I’ve been wanting to try out a drone for so long.”

She used the drone to take photographs over Lands End, the site of a project funded by VASG. Says Cravey about her time at Sea Grant, “I really enjoyed the variety of it. I never knew what I was going to do next.”

Cravey, who has always been interested in photography, is gearing up to travel across the country. She will be finishing her bachelor’s degree in photography at the San Francisco Art Institute, which she began in Virginia at Thomas Nelson Community College. One day, she hopes to one day have her own photography studio.

“I like to be free with my photography,” she says. “I enjoy photography because it allows me to be the one that helps others remember all of the good things.”
