Green Infrastructure at ODU:
Flood risk communication project

Contributing writer and Old Dominion University (ODU) Phd student Girish Sreevatsan Nandakumar produced the video below to walk viewers through a story map  created by Austin C. Connito, an undergraduate Ocean Earth and Atmospheric Sciences student at ODU. Sreevatsan was a research assistant to Virginia Sea Grant extension agent and assistant professor of practice at Old Dominion University, Michelle Covi, and Connito recently interned with her.

The Campus Green Infrastructure story map can be viewed here. “This storymap was produced as part of a flood risk communication project that our ODU research team was working on,” says Covi. “It can be used by engineering or other environmental classes and is available to the public as a demonstration of green infrastructure techniques that can be scaled down to use at home or on other properties.” The map is part ODU’s communications efforts to demonstrate adaptation responses to increased flooding due to sea level rise in the region.
