Underserved urban communities in Virginia’s coastal areas may increase resilience to the possible effects of climate change by engaging in resilience-building activities. Students and faculty from Virginian universities will collaborate with community organizations and neighborhood leaders during a regional mini-conference hosted by Virginia Sea Grant. During conference work sessions, participants will assess and prioritize community needs and develop service-learning activities which address coastal resilience and match community needs with university resources. Old Dominion University (ODU) and T William & Mary (W&M) will spearhead the conference planning and conduct information sessions to other area colleges and universities to elicit their participation.

Project Details: Michelle Covi (ODU), Roy Hoagland, Esq. (W&M School of Law), Juita-Elena Yusuf (ODU), Emily Eddins (ODU). Building Coastal Engagement in Underserved Urban Neighborhoods through University Partnerships.
