Ian Day adores Virginia. He grew up in Clark County, VA, and attended William & Mary for undergrad.
After working as a paralegal for an environmental insurance agency in Washington, DC, Day returned to W&M for law school. He’s now in his second year and a student in the Virginia Coastal Policy Center (VCPC).
“I love that the VCPC is focused on Virginia,” Day says. “It’s great to be doing work that I feel has an impact in a place I love to be.”
While in the VCPC, Day will help the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality develop policy for the Coastal Zone Management Program. In Virginia’s Coastal Zone Management Program, state agencies and local governments have partnered to protect coastlines from sea level rise and storm surges.
“I really like the collaborative effort of everyone in the VCPC, especially for my project,” Day says.
After learning about the inner workings of state legislature on a recent VCPC field trip to Virginia’s general assembly, Day says he can see himself practicing environmental law for the state government when he graduates.
Next semester, Day will be taking the second semester of the VCPC.
Day received his bachelor’s from William & Mary in 2012. He majored in international relations.
