Virginia’s bi-annual conference for fish farmers, held in Newport News on November 15 and 16 of last year, drew more than 100 finfish and shellfish growers. The event featured training sessions, aquaculture trade group meetings, and educational sessions focusing on issues facing aquaculture today.
Karen Hudson, VIMS extension staff affiliated with VASG, led a committee of agencies and industry members to organize the conference. She says that the conference had positive reviews from attendees.
“Whenever people say, ‘There wasn’t a session I didn’t want to see,’ I consider that a success,” says Hudson.
The Virginia Aquaculture Conference has been the premiere event for Virginia’s seafood farmers since 2007. The 2013 Conference marks the 4th in the series.
