Dr. R. Christian Jones and Ms. Margaret (Peggy) Sanner, Esq. will visit the Science Museum of Virginia on March 23 from 2:00 to 5:00 pm to explain the science and legal requirements of the Chesapeake Bay Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL).
TMDL is a regulatory tool used in the United States Clean Water Act to describe the maximum amount of pollutants a body of water can receive while retaining healthy water quality.
Dr. Jones is a professor at George Mason University and director of the Potomac Environmental Research and Education Center. Ms. Sanner is Virginia assistant director and senior attorney for the Chesapeake Bay Foundation.
Dr. Jones will cover the science of TMDL pollutants. His presentation will focus on the impacts of pollutants that exist in the Chesapeake Bay watershed. Ms. Sanner will present the underpinnings of the law. The program will also cover the Environmental Protection Agency’s authority for implementation of Presidential Executive Order 13508.
The Virginia Academy of Science and the Virginia Coastal Policy Center of the William & Mary Law School are hosting the event. The event is free of charge.
