The French postmodern theorist Jean Baudrillard said, “We live in a world where there is more and more information, and less and less meaning.” The Virginia Sea Grant (VASG) Communication Center works to create meaning for Commonwealth stakeholders from the profusion of marine and coastal research data, findings, and results through a convergent journalism style.

Environmental Communications is the science that researches, designs, implements, and evaluates communication strategies to connect existing personal values to environmental causes. This is the aim of the VASG Communication Center. This work motivates targeted audiences to value the role the environment plays in sustaining quality of life, and together it is achieved by collaborative cohorts of science writing, photography, videography, multimedia, and research interns and professionals.
